Pears with Chocolate Crumble
To serve – 4
Preparation time – 5 minutes
Cooking time – 8 minutes
Also works wonderfully with apples.
50 g/2 oz light muscovado sugar 150 ml/ ¼ pint water 25 g/1 oz raisins ½ tsp ground cinnamon 4 ripe desert pears, peeled, halved and cored 40 g/1 ½ oz unsalted butter 50 g/2 oz porridge oats 25 g/1 oz hazelnuts, roughly chopped 50 g/2 oz plain chocolate or milk chocolate, chopped Lightly whipped cream or Greek yoghurt to serve
- Place half of the sugar in a frying pan or wide sauté pan with the measurement of water, raisins and cinnamon. Bring just to the boil, add the pears and simmer gently, uncovered for about 5 minutes until the pears are slightly softened.
- Melt the butter in a separate frying pan or saucepan. Add the porridge oats and fry gently for 2 minutes. Stir in the remaining sugar and cook over a gentle heat until golden.
- Spoon the pears onto serving plates. Stir the hazelnuts and chocolate into the oats mixture. Once the chocolate starts to melt, spoon over the pears.
- Serve topped with whipped cream or Greek yoghurt if liked.
